Midwest Food Bank Texas welcomed 10 new nonprofit partners into our network

In the first two months of 2024, Midwest Food Bank Texas welcomed 10 new partner agencies into our network. These additions—local pantries, outreach ministries, and afterschool programs—expand our reach and allow us to serve more families across the state.

This growth reflects the steady increase in need—and our ability to respond quickly and efficiently. By building strong partnerships, we help restore food access where it's been reduced or lost.

"They helped us continue feeding 120 kids we would've otherwise had to turn away," said a new partner agency leader. "That kind of support—it's more than food. It's hope."

Each new connection means more families fed and more children supported—especially as smaller programs struggle to keep up.

Still, behind this expansion lies a deeper challenge. In early 2024, the USDA announced $1 billion in budget cuts to food programs supporting schools and afterschool initiatives. These changes have left many small programs—especially those serving children—with fewer options and fewer resources. Some food banks and school-based partners have been forced to scale back or shut down meal services altogether.

When those calls come in, we do everything we can to say yes.

"We've heard from organizations that are losing federal support but still have lines at the door," said Steve Whitford, Midwest Food Bank Texas Warehouse Manager. "These 10 new partners show what's possible when communities step up."
