12 eggs, 1 easy way to fight hunger

Midwest Food Bank is reaping the benefits of a newly expanding program. HATCH for Hunger is a partnership between Kroger Co., Rose Acre Farms and Elanco Animal Health to provide quality protein to undernourished people through the power of an egg.

Originally started in 65 stores in central Indiana, HATCH recently expanded to 136 Kroger stores across the Midwest. Donations are made either directly at checkout, or by purchasing HATCH-labeled eggs. For each dozen eggs purchased, HATCH will donate an egg. Bloomington-Normal Kroger donations come directly to MFB. Kroger will match donations made in their stores up to $25,000. The first official “active ask” for donations toward HATCH began Sunday, April 24 and will go through Saturday, May 21.

Protein-rich eggs are one of the most commonly requested products at local food bank, but are usually in short supply. Just one egg a day can provide a child half of their daily need for protein.
