When Midwest Food Bank delivered supplies to the South Naples Trojans, one volunteer stood out: Jeanelle. With unrelenting energy, she jumped right in, unloading cases of PowerAde faster than anyone else.
“We always appreciate hard-working volunteers, but Jeanelle was remarkable,” said Scot Buss of Midwest Food Bank. “She was so quick and efficient that I didn’t even realize she had a disability at first. Her drive is incredible.”
This interaction encapsulates Jeanelle’s spirit—a blend of determination, resilience, and an eagerness to help others. Her journey, however, is far more inspiring than one moment of volunteering.
Overcoming Challenges and Finding Her Strength
Born with a limb difference, Jeanelle has faced physical challenges since birth. Despite these obstacles, she has never let them define her. Regular care from her prosthetist, Laura Ryder, and countless trips to Cape Coral for adjustments have been part of her life since the beginning. Yet, Jeanelle approaches every challenge with an unstoppable mindset.
Her passion for sports reflects this resilience. Jeanelle started in tackle football, playing until age 10. As the physical demands increased, she transitioned to basketball and flag football, where she excelled. Recently, she quarterbacked her Under Armour Rise team to a championship and contributed to the South Naples Trojans cheer squad’s national title win.
A Standout Role Model
Currently in 5th grade, Jeanelle shines off the field as well. Once struggling academically, she now holds an impressive 3.6 GPA and inspires her classmates with her love for learning.
Her achievements are made even more remarkable by her upbringing. Raised by her mother, Megan, in a single-parent household, Jeanelle’s story is one of perseverance. Megan works two jobs yet ensures her daughter never misses a game, practice, or school event.
“She’s not just an athlete or a student; she’s an inspiration to everyone she meets,” said Coach Fritz Jaquez of the Lely family. “Jeanelle radiates positivity and shows us all what’s possible with hard work.”
Why Jeanelle’s Story Matters
Jeanelle’s life shows resilience, determination, and the strength of community. Her journey demonstrates that challenges can be opportunities for growth rather than barriers. Whether excelling in sports, achieving in school, or volunteering with Midwest Food Bank, Jeanelle shows how small acts—like helping unload supplies—can make a difference.
