On January 2, Kevin Malloy marked a meaningful milestone, his 80th birthday. For Midwest Food Bank Pennsylvania, it was more than a birthday. It was a moment to pause, give thanks, and honor the steady faithfulness of our longest-serving volunteer.
Kevin began volunteering with Midwest Food Bank in 2020, during the early days of the Pennsylvania division. At that time, there was no warehouse. Food distributions were happening out of a college, systems were still forming, and many faces were unfamiliar. Kevin simply heard there was a need, and he showed up. No introduction, no hesitation, just a willingness to serve.

Since that first distribution, Kevin has been a constant presence. He is often the first one through the door, already at work on the forklift, helping organize the warehouse, and gently, but firmly, keeping everyone in line. His diligence brings order, his consistency builds trust, and his quiet leadership strengthens the whole team. Even outside the warehouse, Kevin continues to serve, sharing Midwest Food Bank’s mission with friends and encouraging others to support the work.
To celebrate his 80th birthday, the team gathered for lunch and surprised him with a gag walker, purely for laughs, as Kevin certainly doesn’t need one. The joy in the room reflected the gratitude we feel.

“Kevin is such a blessing to our organization, and we love having him here every day,” said Sarah Brennan, Midwest Food Bank. “We’re so thankful we could celebrate this milestone birthday with him and hope to celebrate many more.”
Kevin’s service is a reminder that faithfulness, offered day after day, can quietly shape a mission and bless a community. We are deeply thankful for him.
