Community Impact Begins as Relief Reaches Kankakee

Tornado Aftermath

On March 10, 2026, a powerful EF-3 tornado tore through parts of Kankakee, Illinois, leaving behind damaged homes, disrupted lives, and a community searching for steady ground. Within days, disaster relief efforts began moving swiftly across the region.

Just two days after the storm, Midwest Food Bank’s Morton Division mobilized to serve families affected by the devastation. Early on the morning of March 12, teams began preparing emergency supplies to support the response already unfolding in the community.

At 8:30 a.m. on March 12, shipments were actively leaving the Morton warehouse as part of an urgent disaster relief deployment.

Among the supplies heading toward response partners:

  • 300 emergency food boxes

  • 300 hygiene kits

These resources are being provided to support The Salvation Army’s response efforts, helping ensure families facing sudden loss have access to essential food and personal care supplies.

The effort reflects a simple calling that guides disaster relief work: serve quickly, serve faithfully, and serve with compassion.
