Daken brings more than 25 years of supply chain experience to this responsibility. He will oversee local procurement, fleet management, and overall operations. His work will help support the daily systems that allow food, resources, volunteers, and vehicles to move where they are needed.

Experience built through leadership and service

Before joining Midwest Food Bank Arizona, Daken worked in supply chain roles with Republic Services and Newell Rubbermaid. His career has included leading teams at large companies and startups. He has also worked in school environments. Across these settings, his focus has remained consistent: 

Improving processes, supporting people, building accountable teams, solving operational challenges, and delivering meaningful results. These skills are closely connected to his new responsibilities.

Procurement requires careful communication and coordination. Fleet management requires planning, safety, and accountability. Leadership shaped on and off the court

Daken’s leadership experience extends beyond the workplace. He has found fulfillment in coaching high school basketball and working with students. In those settings, he has emphasized character, leadership, accountability, and teamwork. His goal has been to help young people grow both on and off the court.

Those lessons carry naturally into operational leadership. A team works best when people understand what is expected, accept responsibility, communicate clearly, and support one another. The same principles can help staff members and volunteers solve problems and stay focused on the people served through the organization’s work.

Midwest Food Bank offers volunteer roles that include sorting food, preparing donations, supporting distributions, completing administrative work, and using professional skills. Clear coordination helps volunteers contribute their time in practical and organized ways.

Arizona roots and a commitment to community

Daken grew up in Mesa, Arizona. Although he has lived in several states during his career, his new role brings his professional experience to an organization serving his home state. He and his wife, Cymany, have been married for 34 years. They have five adult children.

Daken also serves as Stake President for the Mesa Area North Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His professional work, coaching experience, family life, and church service reflect a long-standing emphasis on leadership and supporting others. As he begins the onboarding process, Daken shared his gratitude for the opportunity:
