Illinois is known for many things, but this spring it also experienced one of its most active tornado seasons on record.
As communities across southern Illinois began cleaning up after back-to-back storms, Midwest Food Bank Morton was ready to respond.
Working alongside The Salvation Army, the Morton Division quickly distributed approximately 75 disaster relief cleanup buckets to affected communities. Each sturdy five-gallon bucket is packed with practical supplies including scrub brushes, work gloves, detergents, garbage bags, and other essentials that help families begin the difficult process of cleaning and rebuilding after a disaster.
Recovery requires more than cleanup supplies. Families also need reliable access to nutritious food while homes are being repaired and daily routines are disrupted.
To support flood recovery efforts in Texas following this year’s extreme flooding, thousands of Tender Mercies meals were also shipped to communities continuing the long road to recovery. These shelf-stable meals provide nourishment for volunteers, first responders, and families working through physically demanding cleanup efforts.
Disasters rarely end when the headlines fade. Thanks to dedicated volunteers, generous donors, and trusted partners, Midwest Food Bank Morton remains prepared to respond when communities need help most.
