Disaster Relief Support Strengthened by Ameren Grant

While the Southeast has experienced a quieter hurricane season, other regions continue to face flooding. In August, Midwest Food Bank Morton sent multiple truckloads of Disaster Relief boxes and cleanup buckets to Milwaukee as the community recovered from severe flooding.

More than 1,000 Disaster Relief boxes were distributed, providing shelf stable food such as peanut butter, canned goods, and simple meals designed to support a household of four for five days. While many items are donated, others are purchased to ensure strong nutritional content. Donated funds allow Midwest Food Bank to provide these balanced foods that help communities recover in meaningful ways.

In addition, more than 1,400 Disaster Relief cleanup buckets were sent to Milwaukee. Each five-gallon bucket is filled with practical supplies including scrub brushes, garbage bags, gloves, and sanitizers. The buckets become a ready to use toolkit for communities cleaning out their homes after flooding.

This work continues a calling that began 20 years ago. The anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, observed this August, marks the moment when founder David Kieser saw the need to expand into Disaster Relief. Truckload after truckload was provided, demonstrating the role Midwest Food Bank was called to step into. Since then, thousands of truckloads of food, water, boxes, and buckets have been distributed across the country in response to natural disasters.

To remain ready for the next call, Midwest Food Bank Morton received a $5,000 grant from Ameren Illinois Philanthropy. These funds will support the purchase of critical supplies and fuel, ensuring trucks can be on the road quickly when disaster strikes.

Through the generosity of donors, the dedication of volunteers, and God’s provision, Midwest Food Bank continues to prepare for the next opportunity to serve communities with Disaster Relief.Enter your text here …
