In Sololo town, located in Kenya’s Marsabit County, a recent food distribution brought 15 tonnes of food, equivalent to approximately 231,500 meals, to local residents.
Marsabit County is among Kenya’s arid and semi-arid regions, where communities continue to face acute food insecurity and malnutrition. The Integrated Food Security Phase Classification has described acute malnutrition across Kenya’s arid and semi-arid lands as “highly concerning.”
Working alongside nonprofit partner Ridgeways Baptist Church, Kapu Africa distributed the food in Sololo, helping reach close to 800 people in the community.
The distribution is one example of how local partnerships allow Kapu Africa to connect food with communities facing difficult conditions. Ridgeways Baptist Church worked alongside Kapu Africa to help coordinate the distribution and reach residents in Sololo.
The work also reflects the faith at the center of Kapu Africa’s mission:
“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in.”
Matthew 25:35
