Helping D.D. feed her family

Here’s is a story told by one of our partner agencies:

D.D. Barber has received food for a family of eight from the South Fort Myers Food Pantry since we opened in 2010. The family has a multitude of health issues. D.D. was diagnosed with breast cancer five years ago, her husband is bed ridden with heart failure, her daughter has digestive problems and requires a special diet. The other members suffer from food allergies.

Throughout all these health issues D.D. remains positive in her outlook and so very appreciative of all the help she has received from our volunteer staff. Many of her food recipes and suggestions have come from SFMFP over the years. The family receives $16.00 per month in food stamps and sometimes she puts $20.00 on her Target account to supplement her two pick-ups here at our pantry. D.D. has oodles of ideas on how to stretch her food she picks up here. She adds instant potatoes to her potato salad to make it go further and freezes much of her produce. D.D. is a walking commercial for SFMFP and happy to relate all the good experiences we have been able to give her.

Stories like D.D.’s remind us at MFB how blessed we are. We’re thankful to partner with organizations like the South Fort Myers Food Pantry in the fight against hunger.
