More than 30,000 pounds of food made its way into the Immokalee community through a Midwest Food Bank Florida distribution on September 10.
Volunteers gathered at Guadalupe Center for Catholic Charities in Immokalee to load food for 12 local nonprofit organizations. From there, each organization took the food back into the community for distribution.
The model allows Midwest Food Bank to work through established nonprofit partners that already know and serve their local communities. In a single distribution, thousands of pounds of food can move from the food bank to multiple organizations and then directly to the people they serve.
For Immokalee, that meant 12 organizations left the September distribution equipped with food to share throughout the surrounding community.
