Inside the Team Changes at Midwest Food Bank

Behind every family served by Midwest Food Bank Arizona, there’s a network of people working quietly, diligently, and with purpose. In April, we welcomed Suzi Brownlee as our new part-time Bookkeeper and recognized and honored the retirement of Julie Cionci, whose impact started long before her official title.

Suzi brings a diverse background in banking, insurance, and nonprofit bookkeeping to our team. Alongside her husband, Scott, and son, Trevor, Suzi has called several states home, most recently Arizona. In her free time, she enjoys fitness, crafting, and reading by the pool.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to be a part of an organization with such an impactful mission and vision and look forward to joining in those efforts,” says Suzi.

Honoring Julie Cionci’s Eight-Year Journey

Julie Cionci’s journey with Midwest Food Bank began in 2017 when she volunteered through YoungLives, a nonprofit that supports young mothers. Her talent and dedication quickly stood out. She began assisting with bookkeeping tasks and was soon hired to assume that role full-time.

Over the years, Julie helped implement vital operational and financial systems that supported Midwest Food Bank Arizona’s early and ongoing growth. Her contributions have strengthened every aspect of our work, from staff coordination to collaboration with the Advisory Board.

“Julie has been instrumental in the growth and success of the Arizona Division of Midwest Food Bank,” says Merilee Baptiste, Executive Director. “For 8 years, she has supported the staff, volunteers, and Advisory Board in numerous ways that will continue on as part of her legacy.”

Julie is now retired officially, choosing to spend more time with her father and grandchildren—a well-earned next chapter.

On April 11, the Midwest Food Bank family in Normal came together to honor a remarkable milestone in the life of one of their own. Mike Hoffman, the longest-serving employee, was celebrated by friends, family, and longtime volunteers for completing 15 years of dedicated service.
 
Mike’s journey with the food bank began in 2010, back when the warehouse was still located on South Veteran’s Parkway in Bloomington. From day one, Mike brought a steady hand, a generous heart, and an unshakable commitment to helping those in need. Whether organizing food drives, mentoring new staff, or simply offering a warm smile to volunteers, Mike has been a constant source of positivity and purpose.
 
The celebration was filled with laughter, heartfelt stories, and more than a few Congratulations. His extended family joined the event, along with longtime friends and volunteers who’ve worked alongside Mike throughout the years. It was a powerful reminder of the community that has formed around his tireless work—and of the many lives he has touched.
 
“Mike has been the heart of this place,” one volunteer shared. “You can’t walk into the food bank without feeling the impact of what he’s committed over the years.”
 
As Mike reflected on the journey, he humbly credited the people around him. “It’s not just one person,” he said. “Everything we’ve done here, we’ve done together.”
 
Fifteen years is a long time, but for those who know Mike, it’s just the beginning of a legacy that will continue to inspire.

This June, Midwest Food Bank Normal welcomes Carrie Ford as our new Agency Coordinator, a role focused on building and supporting relationships with the many nonprofits and agencies we serve across Illinois.

Carrie brings a strong background in both education and administration. She has spent the last nine years teaching elementary students, with over a decade of prior experience in customer service and office management. 

“I feel like God is clearly calling me to leave the field of education where I absolutely love teaching kiddos, to follow a new and exciting path He has laid out for me,” Carrie shared.

That path led her to Midwest Food Bank—where her skills in communication, empathy, and organization will serve not only our team but the hundreds of agencies that rely on our work each week.

In addition to her professional background, Carrie brings joy, energy, and a deep love for people. She enjoys time with her husband, Ryan, and their three nearly grown children. Whether cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals, relaxing in her backyard, or spending time on the water, Carrie thrives when surrounded by family and sunshine. Her favorite vacation spot? Any beach, anytime.

As she steps into this new role, Carrie is eager to learn, connect, and make a positive impact.

Midwest Food Bank’s Morton location is pleased to welcome John Cirilli as our new Executive Director, beginning June 9, 2025.

John steps into this leadership role with a deep understanding of both business strategy and community service. A Morton native, John graduated from Morton High School before earning a marketing degree from Syracuse University—a dual allegiance he proudly maintains. (Go Potters! Go Orange!)

After building a successful career in the banking industry, John felt a strong pull toward work that aligned more directly with his values. His decision to join Midwest Food Bank reflects both a professional shift and a personal calling.

“I’m thrilled to be joining such a great organization like Midwest Food Bank and look forward to meeting everyone!” John shared.

He and his wife, Kelsey, live in Morton with their two daughters, Hazel (8) and Ivy (5). The Cirilli family attends Summit Point Church in East Peoria, where their faith and commitment to service play a central role in their lives.

John is no stranger to giving back. He currently serves as a Village of Morton Trustee and a Morton Chamber Ambassador—roles that reflect his passion for supporting local initiatives and strengthening the community from the inside out.

Outside of work, John enjoys family weekends at soccer fields and dance competitions, proudly cheering on Hazel and Ivy. When he’s not supporting his girls, he’s cheering for the Chicago Cubs and Buffalo Bills, perfecting a dish in the kitchen, or enjoying a round of golf with friends.

His blend of leadership, local ties, and genuine care for people makes him a natural fit for this next chapter.

Midwest Food Bank Pennsylvania is excited to welcome Lisa Moyer as our new Volunteer Coordinator, beginning Monday, June 2.

Lisa comes to us with over 20 years of event leadership at Belco Community Credit Union, where she planned and led more than 40 events each year for employees, volunteers, and the broader community.

Beyond her professional experience, Lisa’s commitment shines in her personal life. She has devoted 16 years as director of her church’s annual Vacation Bible School, managing a team of 50 adults and more than 100 children—no small feat!

Lisa lives in Enola with her husband and two sons. She is a board member of the Autism Society of the Greater Harrisburg Area and is eager to contribute to Midwest Food Bank’s mission as part of a faith-based organization serving families and communities in need. Lisa looks forward to bringing her experience to this role and supporting our volunteers.
