MFB Haiti operation growing

As we enter 2019, we reflect on the abundant blessings God provided Midwest Food Bank Haiti in 2018. Highlights of the past year include delivery of five sea containers holding 100 tons of food which helped to feed over 4,000 food insecure Haitians. The primary demographic served by the distribution of this food is children enrolled in school. For many students, the lunch provided at the school is the only meal they will eat that day.

Tender Mercies, MFB’s packaged meal, played an important role in feeding and nourishing these children. Over 750,000 servings of Tender Mercies were delivered in 2018. These meals were also distributed to two safe-houses in the Port au Prince area for girls rescued from sex traffickers. This support will continue to be offered in 2019.

As we continue spreading our message of alleviating hunger, we’re excited to announce that a local church will be hosting a Tender Mercies packing event in February. Over 500 people are expected to attend. The funds raised and Tender Mercies packed from this event will be provided to school children in the Cap Haitien area.

Since establishing the Haiti Division in 2017, we’ve been working diligently with local partners to create secure storage distribution sites that are now functioning to serve the Port au Prince, Cap Hatien, and Jacmel areas. In order to support these growing operations, two new board members, Chuck Rinkenberger and Tom Moss, were welcomed in late 2018.

Looking forward into 2019, our first forty-foot sea container is scheduled to ship in February with two more anticipated to ship in March. Other key priorities include raising awareness of MFB Haiti operations, doubling the amount of food distributed in 2018 and researching the ability to source and package Tender Mercies in country.

Thank you for your continued support of this ministry. We hope to reach even more struggling Haitians with food and the gospel of Christ in 2019.
