Young volunteer a blessing at MFB Morton

When Henry isn’t in school, you can most likely find him volunteering at Midwest Food Bank in Morton.
“It’s fun, and I get to help people,” he says.

At 12 years old, Henry likes baseball and swimming. He also likes to volunteer. At MFB, he is “certified” in operating the hand-held pallet jack. The day he received that certification four years ago is one of his favorite memories of MFB.

His grandparents, Larry and Renae, also volunteer at MFB. Renae assists on distribution days, checking in food partners, and Larry is a regular volunteer in the warehouse.

Henry says he is ready for summer when he can volunteer on distribution days. He watches his grandpa and others operate a forklift and looks forward to being old enough to do that, too.

Another way Henry helps MFB is by cleaning the warehouse with the floor scrubber. His efforts keep the warehouse neat and tidy.

“It’s always a joy to have Henry here at MFB. You can see he looks up to his grandpa and counts it a special privilege to volunteer alongside him,” says Lisa Martin, executive director of MFB Morton. “He has a great heart to help others and a strong work ethic.”

At MFB, there is a volunteer opportunity for all ages and all abilities. Henry proves that to be true. Click here to see volunteer opportunities at MFB Morton.
