Cheryl Poulin offered to “do whatever is needed” when she started volunteering at Midwest Food Bank New England. That offer turned into building automation into our Excel inventory spreadsheets to help us be efficient and accurate. While that might make some people turn in the other direction, Cheryl has taken on the challenge.
Volunteering, says Cheryl, gives her a balance between family life, community life, and work life. “The purpose of MFB is very strong and one that resonates with me. It gives me great satisfaction to help MFB achieve their purpose, in whatever way is needed.”
Her experience lends itself to the attention to detail that is required with inventory management. Cheryl is an actuary by trade and has a degree in actuarial science and mathematics from Penn State University.
“Cheryl has invested hundreds of hours into improving our inventory management,” says Brent Carl, Volunteer and Community Relations Manager for MFB NEC. “Volunteers like Cheryl allow us to carry out our mission.”
Cheryl’s family has also has become part of the MFB volunteer team. “My teenage children were recently packaging grocery boxes while off school,” says Cheryl. “They both look forward to coming back regularly.”
