MFB Pennsylvania volunteer adds ‘a little extra love.’

A plain white envelope containing eight quarters and some dollar bills arrived in the mailbox at Midwest Food Bank Pennsylvania. It was addressed “To Lori,” and contained a sweet note from a Girl Scout who volunteered at MFB a few weeks before.

“As a staff, we’re not sure if we have ever received anything more heartfelt and kind than Tylee’s sweet note,” says Kathy Anderson-Martin, Executive Director of Midwest Food Bank Pennsylvania.

Tylee had been to MFB a few weeks before volunteering with her Girl Scout Troop. “Lori” is Lori Renne, community relations and volunteer manager for MFB. Lori organizes volunteer groups that come to MFB. She gave this Troop the job of packaging bulk pasta into family-size bags. On the day they volunteered, they packaged enough pasta to feed 1,800 people.

“These girls were just awesome,”  says Lori. “Tylee was scooping the pasta and she would add just a bit more and say ‘and a little extra love.'”

MFB encourages people of all ages to volunteer and share their time and talents. This girl left behind some kindness, too.

“Thank you for showing us that the biggest of hearts sometimes come in the smallest of packages and plain white envelopes filled with quarters,” says Kathy.
