MFB Texas seeing increased need

Everything’s big in Texas, as they say.

Texas is the second largest state in land mass, the second largest state in population, produces 40% of America’s oil, and is the largest producer of wind power in the United States.

One number that Texas would like to lower is the grocery inflation number. The U.S. Government Accountability Office examined 17 major cities for grocery inflation, and the Dallas Fort Worth area was second behind Detroit. With the cost of groceries increasing, families are feeling the strain on their food budgets.

“We have 100-plus food partners here at Midwest Food Bank Texas, and they are reporting a 20-25% increase in demand,” says Gareth Keown, Executive Director.

MFB Texas was established in 2018 and is one of 10 locations of MFB in the United States. Already, MFB Texas is distributing $7 million worth of food without charge each year.

“Through teamwork and a commitment to excellence, we can make a real difference in the lives of those we serve,” says Gareth.
