I’ve been working on the Railroad, all the live long day………………
If you’re old enough to remember this old folk song about working on the Railroad and Dinah in the kitchen we hope you are taping your foot to the tune. If you’re too young to know this song, then Google the children’s version and enjoy the story that follows.
Midwest Food Bank received a call from our long-time dry bean vender that a railroad car with their dried navy beans was overloaded and couldn’t be moved until the 20,000 pounds of excess beans where dumped. Appartently, some of the railways have different weight limits thus restricting this particular bean load. Thankfully, they called MFB instead of throwing the excess beans away. So, away we sent our MFB box truck and our volunteer driver to the railroads in Galesburg, IL armed with driving directions and the eager plee for pictures. How often would you see a predicament (we call a blessing) on a railroad car full of dried beans?
Hours later (not the live long day) 20,000 lbs of beautiful dried navy beans made it safely to our warehouse and awaits a volunteer group to bag them into smaller portions to make available to our partnering agencies for upcoming distributions. We pray that these beans make their way to a “Dinah’s” kitchen to fill the bellies of hungry individuals, families, children, or elderly.
