A recent visit to Kenya gave Midwest Food Bank leaders an opportunity to spend time with the Kapu Africa team, meet nonprofit partners, and see their work firsthand.
Midwest Food Bank Chief of Staff Jada Hoerr joined Kapu Africa Advisory Board President Joe Koch and Vice President Ann Kafer for the visit. Their time in Kenya included strategy sessions focused on the work of Kapu Africa as well as visits with several organizations serving communities across the region.
One stop brought the group together with Food Banking Kenya to reconnect and discuss opportunities for future partnership. The conversation focused on how organizations can work together and share resources and experience to address food insecurity.
The team also spent time with Spread Truth Africa, a nonprofit partner providing disaster relief across Turkana, Marsabit, and the corridor into South Sudan. The visit provided time for fellowship, sharing lessons learned, and discussing opportunities to work together in the year ahead.
At Pleasant Hope Academy, the group saw another side of Kapu Africa’s nonprofit partnerships. The school includes lower primary and junior school programs, with a high school currently under construction. It also operates a residential facility caring for orphaned children and children from vulnerable families.
Together, the visits provided Midwest Food Bank and Kapu Africa leaders with a closer look at the work of local partners while creating time to listen, learn, and plan for the future.
Strong partnerships begin by listening and learning together.
