Disaster Relief Mobilized Following Severe Storms Across Southern Mississippi

tornado
When a powerful tornado outbreak swept across southern Mississippi on May 6 and 7, communities across the Pine Belt region were left facing widespread destruction, damaged homes, and extended power outages.

Multiple confirmed tornadoes, including several EF3 storms, tore through neighborhoods and businesses, leaving many families suddenly without stability or access to basic necessities.

In response, Midwest Food Bank quickly mobilized disaster relief efforts to support impacted communities. A total of 1,040 family food boxes filled with essential shelf-stable meals were prepared for emergency distribution through local partners serving some of the hardest-hit areas.

“We know many families are facing overwhelming loss and uncertainty right now,” said John Cirilli, Executive Director of Midwest Food Bank Morton. “Our goal is to move essential food supplies into these communities as quickly as possible so local partners and first responders can focus on helping families begin the recovery process.”

As damage assessments continue, additional relief efforts are being coordinated to meet ongoing needs throughout the region. Midwest Food Bank remains committed to working alongside local agencies and emergency responders to provide practical support and encouragement during recovery efforts.

Since its founding in 2003, Midwest Food Bank has served communities during times of crisis by providing food assistance and disaster relief through partnerships powered by volunteers and donors.

For those interested in supporting ongoing disaster relief efforts, donations help provide food supplies and transportation assistance to communities recovering from emergencies.
