In May, Midwest Food Bank New England hosted a refresher training for volunteer team leads, bringing together a group of dedicated individuals who help guide shifts and support volunteers throughout the warehouse.
The training began with a two-hour session focused on reviewing foundational procedures, discussing updated safety measures, and sharing perspectives on what it looks like to lead a successful volunteer shift. Team leads also had the opportunity to openly discuss challenges, lessons learned, and ways to continue strengthening the volunteer experience.
One of the most meaningful parts of the day came during an icebreaker activity, when each participant shared a moment that reminded them why the mission matters. Around the room, stories were shared about the impact food assistance can have on individuals and families facing difficult circumstances. Those conversations served as a powerful reminder that every task completed in the warehouse represents hope reaching someone in need.
After the training session, the group shared lunch together before putting what they learned into practice by running a volunteer shift of their own. The hands-on experience gave team leads the opportunity to continue building relationships while reinforcing the teamwork and communication that make each shift successful.
