Retired driver gives back by volunteering at MFB Georgia

After 45 years in the trucking industry, Eddie Percy isn’t tired of getting behind the wheel. In 2013 he retired from US Foods but was still willing to log more miles.

“I saw an article in the newspaper about Midwest Food Bank, and I decided to check them out,” says Eddie. They needed a driver, and that was a perfect fit for me.”

Eddie has been a regular and reliable driver for MFB for eight years. Volunteer semi-drivers transport food donations to our warehouses. Drivers like Eddie fill driving positions that would otherwise be paid staff members.

“Eddie Percy is the quintessential professional truck driver, with a wealth of knowledge about trucks, trucking, and pickup locations in Atlanta,” says Jeff Carson, Warehouse Manager at MFB Georgia. “Through his years volunteering at MFB, he picked up over 450 loads of food, representing Midwest Food Bank with grace and humility.”

“I had the opportunity to volunteer with the most amazing people,” says Eddie. “If you are a driver with a CDL, are retired, or have some free time, I recommend volunteering for MFB. It’s a great way to give back to the less fortunate.”

Eddie and his wife have two sons, six grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. He enjoys spending time with his family and watching his youngest grandson play college baseball.
