At Maple Street Church of God, meeting a community need for food has become a powerful way to also share faith, compassion, and hope. Through partnership with Midwest Food Bank’s Bloomington-Normal division, the church is able to serve families locally while also reaching neighbors in Hazard, Kentucky.
The church’s food ministry was created in response to a clear need in the community. What continues to motivate the team is the opportunity to not only provide food, but also to share the Gospel and walk alongside people during difficult seasons of life.
One story that deeply reflects the impact of this ministry is a woman who visits regularly. She arrives broken, often emotional, and grateful. Each time she comes, she asks for prayer, and she consistently thanks the volunteers for the food she receives. Her response is a reminder that the ministry offers more than groceries, it offers care, dignity, and spiritual support.
Midwest Food Bank plays a vital role in making this work possible. By providing food, it allows Maple Street Church of God to focus resources on people rather than purchasing groceries. The partnership enables the church to meet needs they otherwise could not meet on their own.
Like many ministries, challenges exist. Limited resources can make it difficult at times, but the team remains committed to doing their best with what they have. In addition to food, they offer clothing when available and prayer for anyone who requests it. Every person is treated like family, with love, respect, and a genuine desire to show the love of Jesus.
What the team values most is the opportunity to get to know the people they serve, to listen to their stories, pray with them, and share joy together. Volunteers and guests alike experience connection, compassion, and faith in action.
Maple Street Church of God continues to serve as a place where needs are met with both practical help and heartfelt care.
