A little look at what’s happening at Midwest Food Bank Texas!
By Sam Thompson, Executive Director
There is a lot happening at Midwest Food Bank, and I LOVE it!
When I think about the past few months, the word that comes to mind is momentum. We are growing, building relationships, welcoming new volunteers, serving our partner agencies, and looking for new ways to get more food into the hands of people who need it most.
But here’s the thing I’ve learned: momentum doesn’t happen because of one person. It happens because people come together.
Every time a volunteer walks through our doors, a donor says “yes,” a company sponsors an initiative, or a partner agency picks up a load of food, we are reminded that this mission is bigger than any one of us. And that’s what makes this work so rewarding.
As we look toward the future, we are focused on building a strong foundation for continued growth. We want to welcome additional leaders to our Advisory Board, develop new donor relationships, and build partnerships with a few cornerstone donors who can help provide long-term stability for our operations.
We are also dreaming bigger and exploring opportunities for remote distribution sites and, eventually, a capital campaign that could help us develop a new Texas Division headquarters.
The possibilities are exciting!
Most importantly, I want to say THANK YOU. To our volunteers, donors, partner agencies, board members, staff and friends, you are the reason we can keep doing what we do.
I’ve spent most of my career learning that the real impact of an organization is measured not just by what happens inside its walls, but by the lives touched because people choose to serve. And that’s exactly what I see happening every day at Midwest Food Bank.
Keep serving. Keep giving. Keep making a difference!
Keeping the Food Moving
By Sammy Salinas, Operations Manager
If you’ve ever walked through our warehouse when we’re busy, you know one thing for sure…
Something is ALWAYS moving!
Trucks are arriving. Volunteers are sorting. Pallets are being built. Boxes are being packed. Orders are being loaded. And before you know it, another truck is headed out the door to one of our partner agencies.
That’s what I love about operations, we get to see the mission come to life every single day.
But here’s the secret: we couldn’t keep things moving without our volunteers.
A few hours of volunteer time can make a tremendous difference. Whether you’re sorting food, building boxes, helping with a distribution or lending a hand with one of our special projects, you’re helping us turn donated food into real help for people in our communities.
And the impact keeps growing.
Our operations team is continually looking for ways to improve efficiency, maximize warehouse space, strengthen transportation and increase the amount of food we can distribute. As our partner network grows, so does the need for volunteers and resources to keep everything moving smoothly.
One of my favorite sights is seeing a group of volunteers arrive for the first time. They may not know exactly what to expect.
A couple of hours later, they’re smiling, working together and asking, “When can we come back?” That’s what it’s all about.
So from the entire operations team:
THANK YOU for showing up, pitching in and keeping the food moving!
We couldn’t do it without you
