Zach is a junior political science major at Elizabethtown College in Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania. Along with staying active on campus, he enjoys spending time with his parents, younger brother, and girlfriend. He also has a unique collection of hobbies, including collecting coins, sports cards, and stamps.
Zach began volunteering with Midwest Food Bank in September 2023 through the Benner Leaders Program. The college initiative connects students with nonprofit internships throughout all four years of their college experience, helping them build leadership skills while serving their communities.
Since joining Midwest Food Bank, Zach has taken on many different responsibilities. He helps lead volunteer groups, supports warehouse operations, and drives a forklift during food distribution efforts.
What keeps him coming back is simple.
He loves being part of the work happening every day at Midwest Food Bank and knowing it helps feed people across the community.
His favorite part of volunteering is watching food leave during loadout. Each time an agency partner loads a pallet into their vehicle, Zach thinks about the families and individuals who may receive that food later that day.
“That food could make someone’s entire day,” he shared.
Moments like that remind him why the work matters.
Zach also wants others to know that Midwest Food Bank is a meaningful place to volunteer. From hands-on warehouse work to helping community partners receive food, he believes every volunteer plays an important role in helping people access needed resources.
We are thankful for Zach’s steady commitment, positive attitude, and willingness to serve wherever needed. Volunteers like him help make food distribution possible each week.
Thank you, Zach, for the care and energy you bring to Midwest Food Bank every day.
