Two Cousins, One Shared Commitment to Service

Megan Lea Crop

If you’ve volunteered during an evening shift, you may have met Megan Baer or Lea Baer. These cousins serve as Volunteer Leads, helping groups feel welcomed and guiding them through projects of all sizes and capacities.

Megan began volunteering in 2018 after previously serving with a food bank in California and wanting to find a similar opportunity. In 2020, she invited her cousin Lea to join her. Lea shared that she enjoys “getting to know all kinds of different people and how we can all come together to help combat hunger.” Megan added, “Volunteering gives me a meaningful way to distribute some of the privilege that I am fortunate enough to have.”

Both Megan and Lea work full time outside of their volunteer hours. Lea serves as an Ag and Commercial Loan Officer at Midwest Bank, while Megan works as a Contract Administrator for a road construction company. Megan is also involved in her community as a member of the Tremont Zoning Board Committee and as a volunteer firefighter.

Outside of work and volunteering, both enjoy reading and spending time with their many nieces and nephews.

Volunteer Coordinator Brittany Parker shared, “Megan and Lea are so great to have on our team. They both bring cheerful, helpful hearts to our mission and can tackle any situation that comes up. Their experience with groups of all sizes and ages is invaluable, especially during evening shifts.”

We are grateful for Megan and Lea’s years of service and for the care they bring as ambassadors who help others experience meaningful service.
