Investing $11M in Indiana Hunger Relief

New building plans Indiana

Key milestones are complete as planning continues for the new warehouse project

  • This article provides an update on the ongoing Under One Roof capital campaign.
  • Recent progress includes land acquisition, contractor selection, and active design planning.
  • Continued community support is needed to close the funding gap and move into construction.

Midwest Food Bank, Indiana Division, continues to make steady progress on its Under One Roof capital campaign, a strategic initiative designed to strengthen community impact by improving how food is received, stored, and distributed across the state.

Launched last year, the campaign focuses on consolidating current operations into a single, purpose-built facility. Today, the organization operates from multiple locations, creating added strain for volunteers, partner agencies, and staff. This structure requires additional time, transportation, and coordination that can limit efficiency and delay food reaching those in need.

The planned solution is a new centralized warehouse that brings all operations together. According to the campaign’s case for support, the project includes a 60,000 square foot facility designed to streamline logistics, expand cold storage, and create dedicated space for volunteers and partners.

Recent progress reflects both careful planning and growing community support. Land for the new site has been secured, and Alt Construction has been selected as the design-build contractor. Site planning and building design are actively moving forward, with final details continuing to take shape.

This investment is not simply about a building. It is about removing barriers that currently limit service. Operating across multiple warehouses increases costs, adds transportation demands, and reduces the ability to accept and process food efficiently. A single location will allow Midwest Food Bank Indiana to:

  • Reduce time and cost associated with moving food between sites
  • Increase capacity to accept perishable donations
  • Improve volunteer coordination and training
  • Strengthen partnerships with over 250 agencies statewide

These changes directly support the organization’s mission to serve with compassion and ensure food reaches families, churches, and nonprofit partners without delay.

The need remains significant. Midwest Food Bank Indiana currently supports more than 240,000 Hoosiers through its network of partner agencies. As food insecurity continues to affect communities across the state, improving operational efficiency becomes a practical way to extend impact without increasing cost per service.

Funding for the Under One Roof campaign continues to move forward, with strong participation from donors, churches, and community partners. At the same time, a funding gap remains, and active fundraising efforts are ongoing to bring the project to completion.

One of those efforts includes the upcoming clay shoot fundraiser, which directly supports the building project. Events like this provide a clear opportunity for individuals and organizations to contribute in a tangible way while engaging with the mission.

Construction is anticipated to begin in late summer 2026, with a goal of completing the transition into the new facility in 2027. These timelines remain flexible as planning and funding progress, reflecting a commitment to responsible stewardship and long-term sustainability.

The vision behind Under One Roof is simple and grounded in service. By bringing operations together, Midwest Food Bank Indiana can better steward resources, care for volunteers, and extend its reach to communities across the state.

This work reflects a shared calling to serve with grace, act with compassion, and bring light to practical needs in local communities.
