Midwest Food Bank volunteers have all kinds of passions, talents, and interests. When they bring those to MFB, great things happen.
In 2020, Heidi Cerrigione retired from Oakridge Dairy as their Office Manager/Bookkeeper. Her employment history includes banking, lending, real estate appraisal, and bookkeeping for several businesses. She has always enjoyed working with numbers.
Having always found volunteering to be fulfilling, she is excited to find a role that combines both. Heidi is the new volunteer bookkeeper at Midwest Food Bank New England. Her work fills a critical need.
“I feel privileged and grateful to have someone of Heidi’s caliber to manage our bookkeeping,” says Jan Young, Executive Director of MFB New England. “Her integrity, experience, and willingness to volunteer her time and talents are such a blessing.”
Along with her husband, John, Heidi has been enjoying an energetic retirement, with activities like biking, hiking, and kayaking. Playing music together and with friends is another passion of theirs. Heidi and John focus on old-time music with the dulcimer, autoharp, guitar, banjo, and bass. Heidi’s Swiss heritage comes into play as she learns to play the schwyzerorgeli (really!), a Swiss accordion.
In addition to volunteering as our bookkeeper, Heidi’s volunteer career as a Certified Music Practitioner includes playing bedside music for patients. Heidi and John volunteered as a duo for many years at the Behavioral Health Unit at Manchester Hospital.
“I enjoy contributing a small part to the tremendous effort of providing food to our neighbors in need,” says Heidi.
