I serve as the Community Ambassador for Connect Church ATL, located at 3532 Covington Hwy, Decatur, GA 30032.
The food pantry is run and operated by Connect Church, and my nonprofit, Blessing Bags of Warmth for the Homeless, partners closely with the pantry to expand outreach and serve families experiencing food insecurity and instability throughout Metro Atlanta.
Together, we operate an appointment based pantry, providing shelf stable groceries, snacks, and essential household staples to individuals and families in crisis.
We also support families living in extended stay motels by offering quick prep foods that fit their limited cooking options.
In addition to weekly appointments, Connect Church hosts occasional large scale community distributions, especially when Midwest Food Bank provides bulk dry goods and produce. Our most recent event, the Trunk or Treat giveaway, served more than 200 families in one evening.
Children selected candy and snacks from decorated trunks, and parents were able to shop tables filled with produce and pantry staples.
On a regular basis, the pantry serves 75–100 households each month, and significantly more during major distributions. We have a core team of seven active pantry volunteers who handle scheduling, restocking, and day to day operations. During bigger giveaways, we are joined by additional community volunteers, many of whom are not members of Connect Church or my nonprofit, but show up simply because they care about serving their neighbors.
What I love most about being part of this work is seeing hope restored in real time. Whether it is a parent breathing easier because their children will eat tonight, or a senior relieved to have enough food to make it through the month, those small moments of dignity and connection are what keep me committed. This partnership allows both Connect Church and Blessing Bags of Warmth to meet families exactly where they are and remind them that they are not alone.
Thank you again, Sarah, for thinking of us and for everything Midwest Food Bank does to make this work possible.
Warmly,
Sherri Elaine McCoy
