In East Africa, Midwest Food Bank is making a real difference through innovative food programs designed to support both families and local economies.

Tender Mercies
The ingredients of Tender Mercies are locally sourced and packaged, supporting the local economy. It is a balanced meal of mixed grains, proteins, fiber and fat, enriched with vitamins and minerals.
Disaster Relief
Currently, much of Africa has been suffering the effects of a severe drought. Ironically, there has also been devastating flooding. Many of the victims are women and children.

How We're Helping in Kenya
Before Midwest Food Bank arrived, there were no “food banks” in Kenya. The concept didn’t exist. The team turned to Swahili-speaking locals who suggested the name, Kapu Africa. In Swahili, Kapu Africa means “the collection basket of Africa”.
Because Kapu Africa is blessed with faithful corporate support, we are able to collect and distribute donations on the same day. This eliminates the need for a distribution center and the security risks that come with storing food in an unoccupied building.
68 Nonprofits
All food aid is distributed through a trusted network of 68 nonprofit partners.
Tender Mercies
We provide free food, to 68 nonprofit partners such as Ridgeways Baptist, Spread Truth, and others.
