According to USDA studies, more than 150 tons of food is wasted in the U.S. each day. As a feeding ministry, it is important to the mission of Midwest Food Bank to reclaim some of that food.
Dot Foods, located in Mount Sterling, IL, is a food distributor serving businesses in food service, retail, vending and food ingredient channels. As the nation's largest food redistributor, they supply food to customers in all 50 states and 39 countries. A family-owned and operated company, Dot Foods operates from 11 distribution centers across the U.S.
In the course of doing business, Dot Foods often has food that is safe and edible, yet, mispackaged, or otherwise not able to be sold. This generous corporation goes to the effort of getting that food to those in need through a partnership with Midwest Food Bank. In 2018, Dot Foods donated over $8.5 million in food to Midwest Food Bank. This charitable donation minimized food waste and provided food for distribution at MFB.
Recently, some MFB employees visited Dot Foods. It was a great opportunity to express gratitude for the partnership and explore opportunities to further it. Following a meeting, they toured the Dot Foods facility (see photos below).
