People that come to Crossroads Community Cathedral Food Pantry in East Hartford get a bag of groceries delivered with a smile.
This pantry serves about 100 families from East Hartford and Manchester weekly, and some people drive 25 miles to access the pantry. Crossroads is located in a church and has about 15 volunteers, says Amy Rivera, food pantry coordinator.
"The families are greeted with smiling faces in a happy environment from volunteers who care for the people coming by," says Amy.

That caring spirit extends to the ministry side of the pantry as volunteers build relationships. "Volunteers learn about people's lives, their children, their needs in addition to food, and team members pray with them if they would like," she says.
The pantry has been providing food for several years but a little more than four years ago started weekly distributions. The need in the area continues to grow.
"The partnership with Midwest Food Bank is a real blessing," Amy says. "They keep our shelves filled with a variety of food, especially with the food shortages and the food costs."

Crossroads Community Cathedral Food Pantry is one of the many food pantries that receive food, without cost, from Midwest Food Bank New England.
