Midwest Food Bank Vision Trip – Kenya 2025

When 19 travelers from across the U.S. arrived in Nairobi, they came to experience theMidwest Food Bank Vision Trip. It was a journey of seeing God's work firsthand, joining in fellowship, and returning with renewed insights and enthusiasm for the efforts of Midwest Food Bank in Kenya.

The trip included fellowship among local believers, including worship at Ridgeways Baptist Church and time spent with Midwest Food Bank partners over a shared meal. Cultural visitsand moments of hospitality in Kenyan homes, provided a window into the daily lives of the Kenyans that partner with Midwest Food Bank.

The team also visited Soy Afric, Midwest Food Bank's Kenyan manufacturing partner, where faithful work ensures high quality, high nutrition food is available for Midwest Food Bank distribution. The team saw classrooms at Glory Christian School, walked through Kibera, Kenya's largest slum, and connected with nonprofit partners such as Eastleigh Deliverance and International Christian Assemblies, experiencing how faith and service intertwine in Kenya.

In Kajiado County, the group partnered with Spread Truth Africa to witness education and hope in action at Greenland School, where teenage mothers are given a second chance to learn, while their children are lovingly cared for. At Olosaruni Baptist Church, they participated in a Tender Mercies distribution, sharing more than just supplies by engaging in a church assembly and sharing joint prayers. They also visited an FGM Rescue Center, where they met women whose lives had been transformed by compassion and opportunity with job skills training.

Throughout the journey, the team anchored each day with devotions, studying the Lord's Prayer and lifting their voices together in their team song, The Lord's Prayer (It's Yours). These rhythms of prayer and praise kept their focus on God and the purpose of serving with humility.

The trip concluded with time in the Masai Mara, where the beauty of creation stirred gratitude and reflection. Meals, safaris, and fellowship became spaces for sharing testimony, offering encouragement, and building relationships.

This was the second Midwest Food Bank Vision Trip of its kind, and it reminded all involved that the experience is not simply about distribution or projects. It is about walking alongside communities, seeing God's work through His people, and returning with renewed commitment to share the blessings entrusted to us. Midwest Food Bank looks forward to inviting more supporters on future Vision Trips, continuing to open eyes to God's mission in motion.

"Serving in Kenya reminded me that compassion crosses borders. We weren't just distributing food. We were building trust, sharing stories, and being changed ourselves." — Jada Hoerr, Chief Resource Officer.
