Timeless - that is the first word audiences hear in "Ruth" the musical, written and composed by David Getz. The musical depicts the Bible's book of Ruth and the timeless themes of kindness and compassion. "You don't have to be a Christian to get behind both of those things," Getz says.
Audiences should mark their calendar for October 10. "Ruth" will be performed on that date at St. Paul Baptist Church,114 W. Forrest Hill Ave. in Peoria. Proceeds from ticket sales will benefit Midwest Food Bank East Africa. This venue seats about 1,000 people and there will be one performance.
Getz says connecting with organizations that exemplify the themes of kindness and compassion is why he continues to perform this musical. He says Midwest Food Bank mirrors Boaz and his role in providing excess food for those in need. Getz started writing and composing the musical after hearing a sermon by Doug Habegger at Grace Church in Morton in November of 2011.
"I want as many people to hear it as possible," Getz says. "That's what music is - a gift for others,"
