A letter from MFB President David Kieser
Dear Friend of Midwest Food Bank,
What an extraordinary time this is! Just one short month ago, we would not have thought all of the changes we've been through were possible. And yet now many of us are sheltering in place, watching unusual events unfold.
In normal times, life is a struggle in Kenya. In the time of COVID-19, it has become much worse. Vulnerable children and families have few resources for help.
Kapu Africa is responding more than ever before with Tender Mercies for orphanages, church-sponsored family feeding programs, and regional disaster relief programs. Our partners Ridgeways Baptist Church and SpreadTruth Kenya are helping to facilitate relief.
To make Tender Mercies, we buy the ingredients and package the meals locally. This not only helps feed the hungry, but provides some stimulus for the local economy. The additional needs caused by COVID-19 have stretched our resources. By the end of April we will have used funds we expected to last all year.
Please consider helping the hungry of Africa by making a donation to Midwest Food Bank East Africa. Many US-based companies have set up COVID-19 matching funds for donations to organizations like Midwest Food Bank East Africa that are the last line of defense for some of the most vulnerable people. Check to see if your employer offers matching dollars.
Thank you for your support of Midwest Food Bank. Please continue to pray for us as we work to alleviate suffering. With God's help, we will continue to share His love and bring help and hope to our struggling neighbors.
Finally, let's follow and share what we read in Joshua 1:9: "Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go."
In His Service,
David Keiser
