Blessing the children
Having a good school system doesn't mean everything is perfect. Here in Fayette County are some of the highest rated schools in the state and nation. Still, some of the children are hungry.
What can a teacher do for a student who can't concentrate because of hunger? Some decided to use their own personal funds to provide food. That is dedication. Midwest Food Bank reached out to offer our help.
In August of 2017, MFB began providing a variety of snacks to 14 elementary schools in Fayette County. In February 2018, the program was expanded to include 5 middle schools.
Each month, a group of volunteers comes to Midwest Food Bank to pack nearly 50 cases with food. These boxes are then delivered to participating schools. The volunteers are led by Gail Frantz, the 2015 Fayette County Teacher of the Year (is it any wonder?).
No student should struggle to learn because of hunger. Midwest Food Bank is blessed to be able to partner with the schools to give these young people the help they need.
"Let the children come to me; do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God.
Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it."
And he took them in his arms and blessed them, laying his hands on them. - Mark 10:14-16
