Higher learning, higher calling

" this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words

the Lord Jesus himself said: 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.' " - Acts 20:35

It's a blessing to us at MFB to see so many people concerned about those in need. Elementary school children learn the value of thinking of others. High shool and college-age men and women give of their youthful vitality and passion. Middle aged and elderly people give of their time and wisdom.

MFB Morton rejoiced to see Bradley University students spending time helping others on Friday, April 20. Instead of using that afternoon for downtime, about 100 students hand packed the Midwest Food Bank Tender Mercies meal packets in the student center ballroom. It was a different kind of college party - the music, energy and excitement were there, but so were the hairnets, gloves and hearts that want to volunteer and lift up those in need.

This was the first time Midwest Food Bank has partnered with Bradley University with a meal packing event on campus. A student organization sponsored the cost of the meal packets and has directed these meals to Peoria Public Schools to be given to students and families. While this was the first event on campus, it probably won't be the last. Students and faculty are looking for additional dates to organize future events. High learning and a higher calling - happening at Bradley University.

Midwest Food Bank thrives on the work of a huge army of volunteers. in 2017, over 23,000 people gave enough hours of service to be the equivalent of more than 100 full-time employees! It is wonderful to know, according to Jesus' words, they are receiving blessings.
