MFB Peoria receives grant from United Way

Midwest Food Bank is the recipient of a $40,000 donation from the Heart of Illinois United Way. The gift is specifically designated to fund MFB's Backpack Program.

MFB Bloomington/Normal and Peoria's Backpack Program supports 40 schools in Peoria, Putnam, Tazewell and Woodford counties. Non-perishable, child-friendly food is given to qualifying students on Friday to ensure access to food over the weekend. Nearly 5,000 children receive food from programs supported by MFB Peoria.

"Heart of Illinois United Way is thrilled to partner with Midwest Food Bank Peoria for the upcoming school year," says Jennifer Zammuto, Heart of Illinois United Way President.

"This generous gift could not come at a better time," says Monica Scheuer, Executive Director of Midwest Food Bank Peoria. "We will be able to improve the quality and consistency of the food we provide."
