MIDWEST FOOD BANK ADDING HURRICANE MARIA VICTIMS TO RELIEF EFFORTS
Midwest Food Bank is expanding relief efforts to include victims of Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico.
Agape Flights, a nonprofit organization based in Venice, Florida will airlift six pallets of Tender Mercies™, the equivalent to nearly 32,000 meals, along with other essential supplies to Puerto Rico on Monday, September 25. Once in Puerto Rico, Love The Nations NFP, will partner with local churches and pregnancy centers to distribute the meals.
Tender Mercies is a packaged at Midwest Food Bank by volunteers. Each packet contains four servings of balanced nutrition (rice, beans, textured vegetable protein and seasonings) and is easily cooked with hot water.
Midwest Food Bank is working with The Salvation Army to overcome the logistical challenges to getting relief to Puerto Rico. More relief is expected to be sent at that time.
To date, 31 semi loads of relief have been sent to Texas and Florida and more are scheduled for next week.
"Our prayers are with the victims of these multiple disasters," says David Kieser, President of Midwest Food Bank. "We are going to do what we can wherever we can."
