Serving MFB Together

Midwest Food Bank has fantastic volunteers, please read about a couple, Mike and Patty Cotta and how they serve those in need.

Both of us just entered retirement (Mike, USDA Ag Lab; Patty, Parsec Enterprises). We had friends who volunteered at Midwest Food Bank. We decided it would be a good opportunity to serve so we inquired about the possibility of volunteering and came in for a tour.

Initially, we did general jobs that needed to be done, but shortly thereafter that we were approached to help with picking up donations from local grocery stores. This was ideal for us: something we could do together and plan on every week. We enjoy this greatly. The staff and other volunteers at Midwest Food Bank are amazing and we feel anything we contribute is always appreciated.

Being caught in St. Thomas during hurricane Irma was an eye opening and life changing experience. We could see firsthand the kind of devastation wrought by a natural disaster like a hurricane. No power or water, trees down, and buildings blown to pieces.

We saw the effects the lack of housing, food and water had on the local people and the need for relief provided by organizations like MFB. We also experienced how grateful people were who received this assistance. It made us proud and blessed to be part of an organization that helps people like these. Midwest Food Bank should be confident in knowing that the work they do really makes a difference in people's lives.

Midwest Food Bank is an organization born out of generosity, caring, and love. They do so much good in the Midwest, but their assistance extends to wherever it is needed. ~ Mike & Patty Cotta
