Volunteer finds camaraderie at MFB Morton

A common desire to serve and a sense of togetherness are a few of the reasons people volunteer at Midwest Food Bank.

David Joos agrees. He helps lead other volunteers at the MFB Morton location on "Fun Fridays" – a time designated for volunteers to work on projects. Those projects may be re-packaging cookies or assembling boxes for disaster relief.

"The MFB team calls me the 'project leader' when I am there, but all I do is take the systems they have already put in place and I try to help make sure they are utilized fully," says David. His professional experience in project management is a natural fit. "I try to help coordinate the volunteers and to help ensure that the tools and items needed to make the volunteers efficient and productive are in place."

It's also the other volunteers that keep him coming back.

"I have really enjoyed meeting some incredible volunteers that serve God at MFB Morton. There is always a lot of camaraderie, teamwork, humbleness, and a desire to help others," says David.

He has committed to serving on a weekly basis while working full-time. He encourages others to join him because it only takes a couple hours to make an impact.

"David's energy level is contagious and you often find him using his project management skills from Cat to rally a group of volunteers to complete a given project," says Lisa Martin, Executive Director of MFB Morton. "We are grateful David gives his time and talents back to the community by serving at Midwest Food Bank."

"The largest goal is to have fellowship and have fun while we serve God as best as we can," David says.

Fun Fridays are from 10 a.m. to noon at MFB Morton. Projects vary and volunteers are asked to wear closed-toe shoes.
