Will R. appreciates The Friendship Center

Will R. at The Friendship Center

Will R. spends as much time as he can at The Friendship Center. He says it helps him "stay out of trouble."

The Friendship Center is one of five Mercy Housing and Shelter programs in Hartford, CT, working to break the cycle of homelessness. This day shelter is where Will eats breakfast and lunch five days a week. He can also take a shower there and has developed relationships with volunteers and staff.

He says he likes talking to the people at The Friendship Center because "they are always there for you." His favorite meal is fish, a specialty of the chef on site. Midwest Food Bank New England provides food to the Friendship Center and the food pantry available there.

Will does not have a home and stays on the street or in nearby parks, where he often encounters drug dealers. Will and people like him are at the core of the Midwest Food Bank mission. We're thankful for partner agencies like Mercy Housing and Shelter, serving the many "Wills" in our communities.
