Youthful vigor coming from FGCU

Here at Midwest Food Bank Florida, college students have given us blessing after blessing. Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) has a community service requirement of graduates. Many of them come to MFB to complete their hours.

About twice per week, FGCU students grace our location with their youthful energy and smiles. Sororities, fraternities, friend groups and individuals come to serve. Among other things, they help with our food distribution, inventory, repackaging bulk food donations, and sort incoming donations.

One group of three students completed their required hours and continued to help. They come in every Friday and do an inventory of foods that remain after distribution. By having a set time to volunteer and taking ownership of this task, they save MFB hours of labor costs. We are blessed by their "above and beyond" service.

Thank you to FGCU and the students who give of themselves. For students wishing to walk in unscheduled, we have a food distribution the first four Tuesdays of each month from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. To schedule a group, give us a call at 239-690-1722.

This group of friends sorted products from a donation on November 1st.
