Couple serves in a big way
Volunteers are the heart and soul of Midwest Food Bank. They are the reason over 99¢ of every dollar donated gos to serve those in need. They are vital to the success of this organization. We are so thankful to see committed volunteers step up to the plate at our newest location, MFB Texas.
Kathy and her husband, Don, are a great example of selfless volunteerism. As Under His Wings Ministry, they serve food pantries, men and women's rehab centers, and homeless ministries, among others. They went from serving 10 food charities to more than 40 after becoming an agency partner with Midwest Food Bank.
Kathy and Don drive their own semi to pick up loads and provide food to at least 13 different ministries in East Texas feeding 2100 people per month. This is pretty amazing, considering that Bedford, the location of Midwest Food Bank Texas is a full two-hour drive from their home. This is a husband and wife team who love serving the Lord and others.
"We have been able to pour a small portion back into MFB through volunteerism," says Kathy. Don helps in the warehouse as a forklift driver, loading and unloading trucks. Kathy helps in the office, doing computer work and paperwork.
When asked what they enjoy most about working with MFB and being a part of distributing food to those in need, Kathy says, "We get to see the compassion at work, We enjoy the relationships that are formed in the process of serving. It's been great to be able to come along side and minister to those less fortunate."
"We are so appreciative of the work Kathy and Don do," says Rich Stoller, MFB Texas' Executive Director. "Their efforts are basically a full-time job."
Thank you to Don and Kathy for volunteering at MFB, and for being the hands and feet of Jesus to bless others through Under His Wings Ministry.
