MFB empowering Haitian farmers

At Midwest Food Bank Haiti, we believe in the power of partnerships to transform lives. Our collaboration with Overture International (OI) exemplifies this belief.

Through our community farm program, we've provided land and support to 60 local Haitian farmers. Typically, we purchase rice and beans from them once a year, ensuring a steady income for the farmers and a reliable supply of essential food for the community.

One farmer, whom we'll call Guergens, faced a unique challenge. Threatened by local gangs eager to steal his stored produce, he needed urgent assistance. Thankfully, we had extra storage space available at the OI Haiti complex, allowing us to purchase his surplus crops, secure his harvest, and provide much-needed financial relief.

But Guergens' story doesn't end there. With the extra funds, he made a life-changing decision. He invested in a cow and a hand plow, expecting to double his yield each year. This investment promises a brighter future for him and his family and contributes to the overall agricultural growth in his community.

Guergens' journey underscores the transformative power of investing in local Haitian farmers. By working in partnership, we can provide timely support and create lasting change. Together, we can uplift more farmers like Guergens and significantly impact their lives and communities.

Your support matters, and we invite you to join us in making a difference through a financial gift. Together, we can empower local farmers and create a brighter future for Haiti, one step at a time.
