MFB Texas welcomes new Executive Director
Farm kids learn early on the value of food and how it is produced. That was the case for Gareth Keown.
"Growing up on a farm, I learned the importance of contributing to food security and now have been given the opportunity to make a significant impact in the lives of those that live daily in a food insecure state," says Gareth.
In July, he joined the Midwest Food Bank staff as the executive director for the Texas location. Besides his farming background, Gareth brings a wealth of experience in the nonprofit sector. He has 20 years of leadership in operations, leadership development, and program management. Most recently, he was an independent consultant for Fractional Services and, before that, the COO of RevJen. Both focus on training and empowering nonprofit organizations and leaders.
"Gareth brings a strong mission alignment, leadership skills, and nonprofit insights to MFB," says Eric Hodel, CEO of MFB.
Gareth is originally from South Africa and came to the United States to start his career after receiving his degree in Theology in Israel. He also has a master's degree in management and leadership.
Gareth and his wife, Andrea, have three children. In his free time, Gareth enjoys participating in Ironman, Ragnar Trail and endurance events.
"Food insecurity is a complex challenge but one worthy of our best effort to address and alleviate," says Gareth.
