Midwest Food Bank's unique Disaster Relief year
Typically, in July and August, Midwest Food Bank is preparing for the Disaster Relief we will provide during hurricane season. 2020 has been anything but typical.
Much of our effort since March has been focused on Disaster Relief. The COVID-19 crisis has placed many people in a position of food insecurity. Thanks to your support, we have been blessed to provide Disaster Relief to many people through our partnership with The Salvation Army.
As of this writing, over 75,000 family food boxes (70 semi loads) have been sent from Midwest Food Bank. That amounts to over $1.7 million in food. Previously, MFB's largest Disaster Relief year (2018) resulted in 55 loads being sent.
Another unique thing about 2020 Disaster Relief is the many locations which have received loads. In the past, many loads have been sent to one location where a singular disaster happened. This year, family food boxes have been sent all over the United States. Supporters of Midwest Food Bank truly have impact nationwide.
We received this comment from a food box recipient in New Jersey: "Thank you very very much from New Jersey!!! That was a solid box of necessary food!! I'm basically agnostic, but God bless you guys in these curious times!!!"
Against this backdrop, we are now at the beginning of hurricane season. We enter this time trusting the Lord for His provision. Thank you to our many faithful donors and volunteers. Together, we will weather new storms sharing Christ's love.
