"... remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, 'It is more blessed to give than to receive." -Acts 20:35
Every summer, Midwest Food Bank Indiana partners with a mission group called "Group Works." A different set of students came to MFB each week on what they called a "Week of Hope." It offers an opportunity for volunteerism and greatly blesses MFB.
One group arrived on Monday ready to dive into whatever work was needed. It happened to be a stressful Monday morning, as a water pump had failed that weekend, spilling water on the floor in front of the freezer. When the group leader asked what they would be doing, MFB Indiana Operation Manager Jeremy Baynai jokingly replied, "that depends. You're not a plumber, are you?"
The Lord had arranged a divine appointment that day. Scott Oberg, owner of United Heating and Cooling, Inc. was the leader of that's day's group. Scott has a Master Plumber's license. Not only did Scott's group fix the issue, they paid for the new pump. Throughout he week, the group accomplished a number of other tasks (including another, smaller, plumbing issue), providing much needed help.
While the week was an amazing blessing to MFB Indiana, Scott was deeply impacted. He followed the week with an email of thanks. Here are his words on the week:
"Last week will likely stay in my memory for many years to come. I felt used by God so much last week. It has been a long time since I have felt that. I pray I never forget the look on your face and your voice when you asked if by chance I would be a plumber. What a great story! Please pass on to the others that I am so grateful to have met them and you. I hope the small amount we accomplished there allowed you to focus on things you do well."
It is amazing to see the Lord work in such a tangible way. Everyone walked away from the week with with a blessing, Including those we serve.
