Midwest Food Bank of Florida
Midwest Food Bank has been fighting hunger throughout the United States since 2003. With the overwhelming help and support of volunteers, our reach has extended far and wide. We expanded into Florida in 2014, when our leadership team spent some time in the great, Sunshine State.
Midwest Food Bank Founder and President David Kieser, as well as many other Midwest Food Bank national board members and volunteers, spend their winters in Southern Florida to get away from the cold. During their respite, it became obvious that there was a need for help in the area. The Bloomington, Illinois location decided to help by sending a semi-truck load of food down to Fort Myers, Florida once a month to serve a handful of agencies. Eventually, as with all great things, word spread about what was happening. The demand for food increased as agencies flocked to become partners.
With increased demand for food in Southern Florida, it became clear that a local facility was needed for ideal distribution. With a new warehouse, local leadership team, eleven agency partners, and much prayer, Fort Myers became yet another location able to serve those in need.
Today, the Fort Myers, Florida location has over 120 agency partners in 29 counties across three states. Although we are located on the Gulf side of Southern Florida, we recognize that there is hunger prevalent in Mississippi and Alabama as well. We’re now delivering truckloads of food to select agency partners in areas of Southern Mississippi and Alabama. We are proud to offer disaster relief as needed, such as in the case of Hurricane Irma, and will continue to do everything we can as needs arise. Thank you for your donations and your willingness to volunteer. Your help enables us to bridge the gap between poverty and prosperity.
