Midwest Food Bank of Texas
“I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink. Truly I tell you, whatever you did for the least of these brothers or sisters of mine, you did for me.” Matt: 25:35,40
In 2017, friends of Midwest Food Bank President, David Kieser, set up a meeting to discuss the possibility of establishing a location in North Texas. A group of interested people grew and began gathering weekly to pray about it. Soon a warehouse sharing agreement was reached with 6 Stones in Bedford, Texas, in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Following a series of fact-finding and encouragement-gathering visits to Midwest Food Bank locations in Arizona, Illinois, and Indiana, the group began transforming their borrowed warehouse space into a viable food bank.
To begin their distribution, MFB Bloomington-Normal sent a semi load of product each month. Food also came in from local suppliers in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. With this food, an outreach to various 501(c)3 food distributing organizations took place. Food distribution began in May 2018. By August, Midwest Food Bank Texas was officially registered with the State of Texas.
Based on the experience and advice of MFB leadership, a facility is being sought to meet the needs of the Metroplex and the rural communities of Texas. The hope is to find a location close to the vicinity of the current warehouse.
You can help. We need prayer warriors, financial backers, skilled labor, less skilled labor, forklift operators, truck drivers, warehouse volunteers, greeters, and especially “I’ll do anything” volunteers. Projects range from single tasks to daily, weekly, and monthly opportunities. We invite you to help make God’s Kingdom real for all people. It is a thrilling experience to be joyfully involved in something God is actively building.
